Gorkhas are indigenous people mainly from mid-western and eastern Nepal. They are Well known for their history and their role in the unification of modern day Nepal (Gorkha Paltoon, modern day Nepalese Army), the Brigade of Gurkhas (British Army), Gurkha Rifles (Indian Army). Gurkha units are closely associated with the khukuri, a forward-curving Nepalese knife of formidable fighting power. Former Chief of staff of the British Indian Army, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, once famously said[2] about Gurkhas: "If a man says he is not afraid of dying, he is either lying or is a Gurkha."
